"Temporary type, placed in public space as a message to the city of Dessau."

"Temporary type, placed in public space as a message to the city of Dessau."

Context

Message to the City was developed during a five-day workshop exploring how typography can exist in public space. I created the statement Bauhaus dreams, Neto realities as a response to the contrast between Dessau’s design legacy and its everyday condition.
Each word was constructed and staged as a physical intervention. I worked directly within the city, allowing each location to shape the form, scale, and meaning of the typography.

Challenge

Translating a message into physical, typographic forms within a short timeframe, working with found materials, uncontrolled environments, and restrictions on using public space.
